War Time

The Second World War had a big impact on people living in Burngreave. During the air raids of the Sheffield Blitz (12 and 15 December, 1940) many homes were destroyed by bombs and people injured or killed. Some of the stories below tell vividly what it was like to live through this period. There is also a story from a different generation. Michelle describes how her father's wartime experiences affected her life.

Some of the more recent arrivals to Burngreave have also experienced the difficulties of war, arriving here as refugees.
