History

  Burngreave has always been a place where newcomers have settled. Starting way back with the Celts, Romans and Vikings, this trend has continued to the present day, making the area an interesting and varied place to live.

Over the centuries, Burngreave has evolved from a rural area with small, scattered settlements, to become a suburb of Sheffield. The story of this transition reflects the history of Sheffield as a whole, developing from a small town to a major industrial centre and producer of steel. Read about this in the sections:
