Churches and other important buildings

Churches have played a very important role within the community in Burngreave for over a hundred years. Many were built during the Industrial Revolution when the population of the area was expanding rapidly. There were numerous different denominations, each one having its own church building. Over the last forty years some of these have been demolished or have changed their function. As the areas population has become more diverse, the need for places of worship for Muslims and Sikhs has also grown. Some of Burngreave existing public buildings have been converted into mosques or temples. One example is the Al Rahman mosque. One significant building in the area is the Burngreave Vestry Hall.
