Joe Scarborough

Born in 1937, Joe is an artist who has painted many scenes of Pitsmoor life. He spent most of his childhood in the area. After a first job at Bachelor's Peas, he began working down the pits at the age of 19. He then discovered a talent for painting that took him in an alternative direction. Although he no longer lives in the area, he still has strong associations with it and continues to paint pictures of traditional life as it was in the 1940s and '50s.
