Super Summer Science Day

Thu 30 July 2026 , 11am-4pm

Kelham Island Museum

This year, we’re doing something special at Kelham Island Museum to kickstart the school holidays – welcome to the Super Summer Science Day

Join us for a host of drop-in activities, hands-on experiments and dazzling demonstrations in this family-friendly day of scientific adventure.

You’ll discover how vegetable pigments can indicate acids and alkalis and test out handmade mini parachutes to safely drop cargo from big heights. Wonder at the workings of water absorption in plants, have a go at writing secret messages using invisible inks and explore the mystery of sound waves!

You’ll also learn how to do experiments that you can recreate at home with materials you can find around the house. There will be lots to see, predict, experiment with, learn about, get hands on with, and most of all, have lots of science-y fun!

We expect this to be a popular event, so please reserve your space today.

This event is in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University.

Everything we do is made possible by you – please donate £5 to help tell stories that connect people with their history, the world around them and each other
