Graves Gallery

In 1929 John George Graves gave £30,000 to the construction of a new library with the condition that an art gallery would be built on the top floor, giving the gallery its name when it opened five years later. An avid art collector, he amassed an astounding 3000 pictures throughout his lifetime and gave 700 of those to the city collection.

Join us at the Graves Gallery and find out about more about life, work and collection of JG Graves. You’ll hear about the history of the gallery and look more closely at some of the works from his original collection that are still on display today.
