Saturday Art Workshop: Printed Lampshades inspired by Lubna Chowdhary

Sat 19 October 2024 , 10am-4pm

Millennium Gallery

Create your own unique and original hand printed lampshade, using the current Lubna Chowdhary exhibition PLURIVERSE as inspiration.

In this workshop you’ll use simple handmade stamps to print a beautiful and unique textile design, which you’ll use to make your lampshade.

Using the exhibition as a starting point for ideas, artist and printmaker Sam Groom will guide you through the process of creating and printing your stamps. Sam will also show you how to play with colour, shape and composition in your design, as well as demonstrating a few techniques to create interesting textures.

Once your fabric is ready, you’ll learn how to use it to create your unique and original drum lampshade to take home.

All materials are included in the workshop, and no experience is necessary.

Samantha Groom is a Sheffield-based artist and printmaker producing colourful, bold prints onto fabric, paper and wood.

This workshop forms part of the programme of events complementing the exhibition Lubna Chowdhary: PLURIVERSE, which continues at the Graves Gallery until 21 December 2024.
