Off the Shelf: Jane Austen’s Fashion Bible - Ros Ballaster

Jane Austen’s Fashion Bible features extracts from Jane Austen’s novels and juvenilia and focuses on the gorgeous styles and social settings of the era. Each excerpt has a corresponding colour fashion plate and description from Regency magazine La Belle Assemblée.

 

Published 1806 - 1832, La Belle Assemblée was famous for its beautiful fashion plates featuring outfits for all occasions from lavish ball gowns to dresses to wear on a country walk. Ros Ballaster is a professor at Oxford University and an expert on Jane Austen.
