Off the Shelf Festival: We are the Monument: Decolonising Public Spaces - Yuen Fong Ling and Jon Cannon

Wed 16 October 2024 , 6pm-7pm

Graves Gallery

We are the Monument is an exhibition at the Graves Art Gallery. In this event artist Dr Yuen Fong Ling and graphic designer Jon Cannon will discuss the visual impact and use of text in public monuments to decolonise public spaces.

The collaborators will use text, font, design, and key words to create a series of public art proposals, street name changes, public monuments and memorials for communities that don’t often get the opportunity to take part  – and you can join them!

The talk will take place in the Carpenter Room in Central Library. The exhibition will be open from 5pm and attendees are encouraged to visit the prior to the talk.
