Off the Shelf Festival: More Ancient Suburbs of Sheffield - David Templeman

The final instalment of the Ancient Suburbs of Sheffield series exploring the city’s fascinating local history and heritage.

 

This illustrated talk delves into the history of Hillsborough with its famous Barracks connected to the Crimean War and George Lambert’s VC from the Indian Mutiny of 1857-58. Other historical areas of Sheffield are explored including Woodhouse with its surviving 17th century buildings and Wincobank, one of Sheffield’s most ancient suburbs, dating back to the Iron Age and the Brigantes tribe of Celtic warriors.
