Off the Shelf Festival: Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood – Hettie Judah in conversation with Hannah Clugston

Thu 24 October 2024 , 12:30pm-1:30pm

Millennium Gallery

Acts of Creation delves into the joys, heartaches, mess and myths of motherhood from ancient goddess artifacts to contemporary interpretations of pregnancy.

This illustrated conversation examines how shifting ideals of motherhood have been constructed and promoted through visual culture, offering a fresh perspective that challenges conventions and inspires change. It explores how 20th and 21st century women artists including Barbara Hepworth and Jenny Saville have worked to reclaim the narrative.

Acts of Creation is a Hayward Gallery touring exhibition curated by Hettie Judah showing at Millennium Gallery from 24 October 2024 - 21 January 2025

This event is part of Off the Shelf: Festival of Words from the University of Sheffield. The full festival programme is available here: https://offtheshelf.org.uk/events/
