Lunchtime Talk: Scissors and Related Curiosities – An Introduction

Thu 20 March 2025 , 1pm-1:45pm

Kelham Island Museum

Join Liz Aspden to hear about the history of Sheffield scissors and their makers, linked to an exciting new research project.

Cutler and Scissor Maker, Grace Horne and Researcher, Liz Aspden are conducting research into the history of scissor making and the people who made them. One output from this will be The Cabinet of Scissor Curiosities (working title) which is being designed as an online museum where visitors can explore resources about scissor designs and styles, manufacturers, patents and the history of scissors in art and literature – among many other things!

This talk will offer you an overview of the project with a focus on Sheffield scissors and makers, an introduction to The Cabinet of Scissor Curiosities, and the chance to look at some scissors of varying sizes and styles along the way.
