Kelham Makes: 3D Winter Paper Cut Scene

Thu 14 November 2024 , 6pm-9pm

Kelham Island Museum

Start the festive season by making your very own 3D Winter Paper Cut Scene to display at home in this friendly, practical workshop.

Using scalpels, scissors, glue, paper and pencils, you’ll design your scene section-by-section to create a Christmas card tunnel book or ‘peep show’, perfect to put on your hearth or table this winter.

Tunnel books date all the way back to the mid-18th century, when they were originally called peep shows. They’re made up of a series of cut-paper panels placed one behind the other, creating the illusion of depth and perspective.

Bring along your own ideas and images to create a one-off artwork. You’ll be taught how to construct a tunnel book structure and to create imagery throughout the pages using a range of paper cutting techniques.

All materials are provided.

This workshop is run by Paperbased, which is taught by experienced paper artist Kim Bevan, who provides workshops for all ages in her own studio and at different settings around Sheffield and further afield. In her own practice she makes artist books which play around with 3D sculptural folding techniques and she creates artwork using paper cutting and printmaking
