The new Ruskin Residency artist, Billy Hughes will be working with Sheffield Museums and the Guild of St George’s Ruskin Collection over the next few months.
Billy is a visual artist, based in the Midlands, who is interested in the idea of nostalgia and labour. His miniature drawings are shown in groups and create loose, constructed narratives which explore ideas of memory, history and the performative rituals of everyday.
Billy will be working alongside the Ruskin Collection Curator, Ashley Gallant and will deliver a practical drawing workshop inspired and informed by the collection. Drawing from Ruskin: Dirtying Paper, Delicately will include basic techniques and fundamentals alongside 'expanded' drawing methods and concepts. It is suitable for everyone from beginners through to everyday artists wanting to develop their skills.
Billy will also be delivering our February half-term workshop, Drawing Ruskin, at the Millennium Gallery where families can have a go at some fun and experimental ways of drawing.
The ‘Activate the Ruskin Collection’ micro-residency is generously funded by the Guild of St George.
