Meet Djed-Maat-is-ankh, a young Ancient Egyptian who died around 650BC. Together, we’ll find out more about her life using primary and secondary sources. We’ll explore in-depth what her everyday life might have been like by examining and questioning artefacts in the gallery and from our handling collection. We’ll talk about the difference between real objects and replicas.

This workshop uses enquiry-based learning to encourage children to connect and empathise with Djed-Maat-is-ankh through a combination of research, discussion and structured debate.

As part of this session, children will consider how colonialism equipped our museums with the knowledge of lives in Ancient Egypt and think about how this makes them feel. They will debate the ethics of displaying grave goods and human remains in museums.
