Sheffield Makes - Warren Martin

Warren George Martin is one of the few remaining silver spinners in Sheffield, a craft that has been listed as critically endangered. He spins for a number of silverware companies and designer makers.

Spinning is process of shaping a flat silver disc into a hollow item using a lathe to spin the disc whilst shaping it over a wooden, nylon, aluminium or steel former, known as a spinning chuck.

This is series 2 of Sheffield Makes - short films about Sheffield makers, processes and products produced within the City of Sheffield and surrounding area. It’s part of our Digital Programme, and we’ll be releasing a new film every month to offer a unique insight into the latest chapter in Sheffield’s making story.
