Lunchtime Talk: The New Birds of the Sheffield Area

Wed 15 April 2026 , 1pm-1:45pm

Weston Park Museum

Join us for an illustrated talk on the making of The New Birds of the Sheffield Area, delivered by the book’s co-editors, Richard Hill and David Wood.

To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Sheffield Bird Study Group, writers, artists and photographers from the SBSG’s membership began working together to produce a new book as a fitting milestone to mark the occasion, building on the group’s landmark publications Birds of the Sheffield Area (1985) and Breeding Birds of the Sheffield Area (2013).

At this lunchtime talk, you’ll hear from the book’s co-editors, Richard Hill and David Wood about how and why they wrote The New Birds of the Sheffield Area, which looks at 300 types of bird. You’ll get a fascinating insight into all things birds and find out more about how things have changed for the species that make up the area's avifauna.

Following the talk the book will be available for purchase.
