Kelham Makes: Willow Leaf Basket Making

Thu 22 May 2025 , 6pm-8:30pm

Kelham Island Museum

Spend an evening making a beautiful leaf-shaped basket from locally grown willow.

Sheffield-based artist, teacher and woodland ranger, Rachel Hutton, will guide you in creating your own handwoven willow basket. You will use locally sourced, sustainable, willow to create a perfect small, elongated, fruit or gift basket.

You will use traditional hand tools, techniques processes from an age gone at this hands-on, two-hour workshop. Learn how to tension your frame, weave in willow, and add in ribs as you weave to make your own beautiful and functional basket.

This workshop is two and a half hours long and booking is recommended. All materials will be provided.

A composite image showing two views of the same macrame wall hanging. It is made of a dusty rose pink yarn, and the knots create a triangle shape coming down. Tassels hang down from the bottom of the triangle, ending in a straight line. The other photo is a more side on view of the same piece.
