Kelham Makes: Jesmonite Coasters

Sun 26 April 2026 , 10am-12pm

Kelham Island Museum

Create your own Jesmonite coaster with artist and maker Kim Searle using a variety of geometric and recycled moulds.

Jesmonite is a versatile material that will create a different result every time. In this session, you'll learn how to weigh it, mix it, and add colours and textural effects.

Coasters can be made with pale pastels or vibrant shades, block colours or fantastic marbled or terrazzo effects. You’ll get to try a type of Jesmonite that will set by the end of the session, as well as another type that will set the next day and has a much more organic look.

All materials are provided. No experience necessary.

Kim Searle runs Darn It! Workshops across the country, delivering creative sessions in venues including festivals, galleries and community spaces. With a focus on sustainability and wellbeing, Kim is passionate about facilitating workshops that build communities and encouraging accessibility. Kim also co runs Thread Republic, a Textile Reuse Hub in Huddersfield.

There’s also another Jesmonite workshop later in the day where participants will create their own Jesmonite plant pot – find out more here.
