Film Screening: Raising the Baton – A Manifesto for Hope

Thu 17 April 2025 , 1pm-2pm

Millennium Gallery

Join the Baton of Hope UK for the North’s first public screening of Raising the Baton: A Manifesto for Hope at the Millennium Gallery.

Forged through tragedy, fuelled by hope. This is the story of how one small charity managed to defy the naysayers to tackle head-on the highly stigmatised subject of suicide. For generations it has been overlooked and even ignored despite being the UK’s biggest killer of men under 50 and women under 35. How did one fledgling charity manage to organise the biggest suicide prevention initiative the country has ever seen? How did they create the world’s only physical symbol of mental wellbeing? And what happened when they took that symbol to the streets of our nation?

Following the film screening, there will be a Q & A session with a panel from the Baton of Hope UK suicide prevention charity.

Running time: approx. 25 minutes. The film has not been classified by the BBFC and as such this event is not suitable for under 18s.
