City of Sanctuary

Tue 4 March - Sun 1 June 2025

Weston Park Museum

Sheffield is a place that takes pride in the welcome it affords vulnerable people seeking asylum, and in 2007 it became the UK’s first City of Sanctuary.

Artist John Wilsher has drawn inspiration for this display through his voluntary work with the Assist and City of Sanctuary charities. The portraits celebrate the stories of individual refugees who have found their way to Sheffield and made a life for themselves.
