Graves Gallery closes for partial redisplay in New Year

In February, there are two new exhibitions making their debut at the Graves Gallery that we can’t wait to share with you. Find out more about them below, along with the short closure period for the gallery that will enable us to carry out the redisplays.

Opening on Thursday 26 February and continuing through until July, When the Day is Done: New Paintings by Ryan Mosley will present a series of new works by the internationally renowned, Sheffield-based artist.

Ryan Mosley’s paintings create characters that reflect our need to connect with each other and the landscape around us. From musicians in night clubs to individuals dwarfed by the enormity of the natural world, they explore the human condition through his painter’s lens. This exhibition at the Graves Gallery will be the first chance to see the artist’s latest works.

Also opening on 26th February is a new exhibition exploring the untold LGBTQ+ stories found in the city’s visual art collection. Queer Legacies in Sheffield’s Art Collection brings together historic and contemporary artworks from Sheffield’s collection to examine how LGBTQ+ expression is woven throughout the history of art.

Developed with curator and museum educator, Jon Sleigh, the exhibition will see visitors discover powerful hidden or unexplored Queer stories from across the collection and consider how they speak to our lives today.

These two new exhibitions will go on display in the spaces either side of the gallery entrance and shop and, due to the logistics involved, will be installed simultaneously. As such, access will be unavailable to the spaces beyond, so the gallery will close for a short period to allow the redisplays to take place.

The gallery will close at 2pm on Wed 24 Dec and reopen at 11am on Thursday 26 February – we look forward to welcoming you then!
