Sheffield Museums Trust runs six of Sheffield’s museums and galleries. The collections we care for and the exhibitions and displays we create span social and industrial history, archaeology, natural science and decorative and visual art.

We are now taking applications for our summer work experience programme. Full details can be found below. The deadline for applications is 23 May 2025.

Who is it for?

Work Experience is for young people from Year 9 to Year 13 at schools within the Sheffield City Region.

When does it happen?

23 - 27 June 2025

7 - 11 July 2025

4 - 8 August 2025

* Please note: Students will only be offered ONE of these weeks to take part. The above weeks are the only dates available.

Where does it take place?

Work experience with us will be based across Sheffield Museums Trust sites, including:

• Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
• Graves Gallery
• Kelham Island Museum
• Millennium Gallery
• Weston Park Museum

What will I do?

You’ll work across departments, teams and sites to gain experience of as many areas as possible. This will include spending time with our curators and our learning teams, as well as our teams who look after our visitor experience, retail, fundraising and communications. As part of your time with us we’ll ask you to keep a reflective journal documenting your experience.

How do I apply?

Please send us a short statement about yourself and why you would like to do your work experience with us. This can either be a written piece, an audio recording or a vlog, whichever you feel most comfortable with.

Please email your statement (in whichever format) along with your preferred week to museumyouth@sheffieldmuseums.org.uk (if you have a video file that is too large to email you can send it via Wetransfer). The deadline for applications is 23 May 2025.
